Also spotted in Causeway Bay.
Another incident where the CU won the day. Aesthetics stepped aside. Functionality of the CU has to be prioritised. We cut the original screen to let the air through.

37. Ducted facade

Also spotted in sheung wan, hong kong, an interesting anarchist mix of recycled plastic ducting with slatted ac condenser screens to firm the shop facade of "homeless.hk" lifestyle store. A celebration of the visual anarchy of hong kong facades, even more appropriate that it is a play ac condensers

36. Framed in Hong Kong

If there is any place that would be considered ac facade heaven, it would have to be hong kong. The sheer scale of building facades with ancient ac condensers growing on them is just impressive, made even more intriguing with their play with 1960s architecture. One thing we noticed are several examples where there is a relationship between the scale of the building facade with ac condensers. Sometimes this might be deliberate, sometimes just coincidence...note the 2nd picture. It appears that initially smaller niches above the casement windows could have possibly been designed to fit small ac condensers. However, your typical condenser size has since grown, resulting in the 4 larger condensers that appear to be "expelled" from class...

35 . AC Facade is going green!

We discovered an interesting way to conceal ac condensers during our recent trip to Jakarta. This is one step closer to the marriage of ac condensers and greenery we posted on #28.

33 . black AC

In post #08 'Candy Boxes', with an attempt to characterise monotonous backlanes, we came up with a crazy but yet simple idea of painting the ac condensers. We later found out that someone has actually done that in Seoul. Though it is not on a neighbourhood scale but it is at least a good start!

31 . Seoul 06 - Spaghetti Incident 03

In Seoul, mysterious spaghetti can sometimes be found without even a trace of ac condensers.

30 . Seoul 05 - Spaghetti Incident 02

We have mentioned in our earlier post, Seoul 03 - Spaghetti Incident, that exposed AC pipes on building facade are commonly found in Korea. Based on our experience in dealing with AC condensers so far, this characteristic is pretty unique and contextual to the country itself. Our recent trip to Seoul in Feb 2011 has strengthened our belief. Check out the photos.
